Multi Session Clinical Tattoo Removal
Your body does not want to be tattooed! This is not an opinion, nor is it a judgement. From the moment that your tattoo artist put that ink into you, your body has been trying to get rid of it. The problem is that the ink particles are too big for your body to effectively do so. In fact, one of the reasons that your tattoo fades naturally over time is your body’s lymphatic system has been attacking the foreign ink particles, which was amply displayed in a recent study published in Scientific Reports (2017).
Your tattoo will soon be treated with a medical grade, Class 4 Nd:Yag Q - Switched laser. When you are tattooed, the ink is encapsulated in your skin. The aim of your treatment is for the laser to shatter the ink into particles that are small enough for your body’s natural defenses to remove those particles as foreign bodies. This is a gradual process and will take multiple sessions to complete.
This procedure is suitable for most skin types. The laser will be attracted to any pigment in the skin. What this means is that while the laser will work on the pigment in your tattoo, it will also be attracted to the melanin in your skin. If you have a darker complexion or skin tone, there is a risk of skin complications (either hyper or hypo pigmentation). This includes recently tanned skin, whether natural, from a tanning bed, or spray tan and cannot be worked on. A patch test will be conducted during your consultation and a decision on proceeding will be made between you and your technician.

How Does the Treatment Feel?
This question is subjective, but tattoo removal can certainly be painful, depending on your pain tolerance. To alleviate some of this discomfort, your skin will be chilled via cold pack prior to treatment and can be re-chilled as needed.
Number of Treatments
There is no definitive answer to this question. Generally speaking, you can expect to need anywhere from 6 - 10 treatments to remove your tattoo. There are many factors to consider in how quickly your tattoo will fade, including
- Is it a professional or amateur tattoo?
- What color is the tattoo?
- Where on the body is the tattoo?
- Your general health?
- Are you a smoker?
- What kind of ink was used?
Treatments are spaced every 8 weeks. Doing it any sooner than that does not do you any good, as your body needs time to remove the ink that has been effected by the laser.
